I was "lunch bitch" today at work, and we decided to go to the new Chick-fil-A in Manassas. Let me just say that I will never again be going there for lunch. The crowd was just not worth it.

I mailed out 4 applications this morning, and sent two online last night. The best thing about work right now is that today is payday. :-D Other than that, the Executive Director was out yesterday and half of today.

This weekend was AWESOME!!! The game was fantastic.

Let me start from Friday - I stayed home from work because I had my first migraine in a very long time. It was one with nausea, and it sucked. So I slept all say, and Annie kept me company. I woke up at about 3 or so, and it was about gone.
Then the guys redoing our septic system FINALLY came (we've been waiting for a year and a half). They left large equipment in our front yard.

On Friday night I went grocerying with Jenny for tailgate food. I also put Annie's Hokie bandana on (her).

Saturday morning I woke up early, baked brownies for my horns, and played the Gameday CD at full volume. :-) I was ready to head for the game at 8:30am, and Jenny wasn't picking me up until 10:30. I loaded the cooler, and bugged my parents for a while, and then finally Jenny came. We went to Kia's new townhouse and got him. We drove over to Fair Oaks to see the band, and I saw tons of people I haven't seen in forever it seems like. I also got to meet baby Sean - what a cutie!!!!! Oh, and Leslie gave us our season tickets!!!!!!! :-D

So Kia, Jenny, and I left and headed to Walmart in Springfield. We got there "late" at 12:45... We were the first ones there. Needless to say, we finally headed to FedEx at 2:30. We tailgated for a while, and I got my first sun of the year. I've got a nice tan. :-P

We went into the stadium, and it was good. :-D Hokie football is here! We were in the last row before all of the USC fans, and they were rude and kept yelling at us to sit down. I felt like saying, "If you wanted to see, you'd have paid for better seats." But I din't. All I have to say is that USC is not a #1 team, and we should not be unranked. We'll see where we end up in the first rankings.

So we left after the game, and sat around and waited for traffic to be over. After a tour around Falls Church, 7 Corners, and who knows where else... Jenny dropped me off at 3:15am. I slept forever. Mom and Dad went to see Lauren and Matt, and helped Lauren with some sewing stuff.

While they were gone, I read some more Adolescent Psych. Woo. Then Gramma called.

Yeah, she gave me some guy's number. He is in vet school at Tech, and goes to my grandmother's church at home. His dad is my Gramma's vet. She gave me his phone number and address in B'burg. What, like I'm gonna go knock on his door? :-P
Sorry... This reminds me of those quizzes that people used to (still do?) send around through e-mail :-P I'm bored at work, and figure it's a nice way to pass the time.

Well, it's about that time... and by "that time," I mean HOKIE FOOTBALL TIME!!!!!

The first game of the (pre)season is on Saturday at FedEx Field. You can't imagine how exciting it is to be able to pick out an outfit for a game. I have already planned what I'll wear - and am hoping I can find the belt ;-)

If you're looking for a way to celebrate the return of Hokie Football on Saturday morning, stop by the FairOaks parking lot at 11:30am. The Marching Virginians will be performing on their way to the game. Just one more way to get into the football frame of mind!!

So let's just say... I want to forget that last week ever happened. The highlight of the week was when Jenny called and after talking said I sounded like I needed ice cream. So she, KT, and I went to Hershey's. Yummy. Ice cream makes the world a better place.

Yesterday was my grandmother's birthday, so we went up, and Mom made dinner. And blueberry pie... with blueberries from Michigan... mmmmmmmm.......

I wrote a paper for my class last night... only two left to go... And I'll be taking a test after work today.

In other news, my dad's been working contract for a company for over a year, and was laid off this morning. He's pretty down, but they also laid off some full time people too, just because the workload is not there.

And I mailed out three job applications this morning. Keep your fingers crossed.

Wow... I haven't posted in a while!

On Saturday evening the power went out! The best/worst part was that it went out right when I was in the shower and washing my hair. No joke. Luckily the water kept running (and stayed hot), and I was able to rinse my hair.
The power was out for about 45 minutes, and there was not a cloud in the sky - Even though Charley should have hit us. So in all there was no reason for the power outtage.

Sunday I went up to B'more to visit Lauren and Matt. They gave me a belated birthday present because they were up in Michigan on the actual day. They got me a DVD set that includes "Strictly Ballroom," "Moulin Rouge," and "Romeo + Juliet." I love the first two and haven't yet seen the third. So that was awesome!
We then went to the Animal Planet Expo! I met on of the Emergency Vets from TV and even got her autograph!!!!! No joke. The "Expo" was at a park in a field, and was very small... but it was fun because a lot of people brought their dogs. This one couple had the cutest puppy ever!!!! And she was loving all the attention she got. At one point she licked another dog's face because it was wet, and everyone standing nearby said "awwwwwww..." It was great.

On Monday I went to work, and we have a new person at work - Shelley - and she's in my building!! Hooray! It's nice to not be alone :-P Tuesday was more work... After work I picked veggies from the garden - and picked a zucchini that it like the size of my upper arm! It's huuuuuuuuuuge!
And alas, the season finale of Summerland was last night... sigh...

Today has been CRAZY... Bunny was fired. Apparently she's threatened to sue our Executive Director and my supervisor (whom she referred to as "the henchman"). So it's been pretty hectic around here today.

I'm going to the nursing home tonight. I haven't been in a few weeks. I miss it! And mom and dad get home from Michigan tonight! They will come bearing almond cookies from the monks! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... There are these monks who live out in the middle of nowhere and they have a bakery. The best cookies and muffins ever! This bakery finances their monastery. In the past few years it has paid for a brand new amazingly beautiful chapel.

Not much else is happening :-P I'll be reading a lot about Adolescent Psychology because I have to finish 3 tests and 3 papers by September 6. Phew.

Oh and on a side note - Rookie band camp started today. Which means a leadership breakfast... And I missed the champagne toast :-/ It is SO weird not to be at band camp, and just as weird to not be returning to school.

Thursday night I went shopping with Sarah for bridesmaids/groomperson dresses. Erica and Sara, who are going to be bridesmaids were there. I went to the DMB concert with Erica, so I knew her already, but this is the first time I've met Sara. They are both way cool, and it was wicked fun trying on dresses with them.

I'm really hoping Sarah chooses the strapless dress (wink wink)... I still need to decide, though if I'll wear black or red... sheesh...

Hurricane Bonnie disappeared before hitting here, so we had a little bit of left over weather on Thursday late afternoon, but really didn't see much more rain. Charley should bring rain tonight, but the severity will depend on his path. I'm going to take a shower this afternoon just in case the power goes out or anything. I've got a book and a magazine to read if the satellite's out, as well as my reading for Adolescent Psych. Woo...

Lots from yesterday...

A lot happened yesterday at work... It is looking like Bunny may (finally) get fired... I also learned that her real name is "Ethel." I don't know which is worse... :-P

I got home to a message from my professor telling me to check my e-mail. It turns out that they had given me a wrong test at the testing center last time, so I had to retake it. BOO... I went and did that this morning, and I got a higher score, so it was a pain, but worth taking it again.

Still no word about the job interview from last week, but we'll see... There's a new person starting on Monday, and she'll be in my building, so things won't be quite so lonely... but no more naps ;-)

Thursday, August 12, 2004

Last night I went with KT and Jenny to see Princess Diaries 2. It was good... but I think we all agreed that we liked the first one better. One plus to the 2nd was that the hot guy was hotter than in the first :-P

As we were leaving the theater, we noticed a guy sitting there alone. Eew... at a rated G movie?! We were all a bit nervous, but I then made the comment that if he is a pedophiliac, then we're not really his type.

This morning I stopped by the farmer's market and visited my French friend. Mmm... almond croissants!

And this evening I'm going dress shopping with Sarah and one of her bridesmaids! Hooray! I was telling one of my coworkers that I am a groomsperson, and she said, "I just can't keep up with all this new wedding stuff!" But it's great cause Sarah's being wicked cool and letting me come along for all the girl stuff... so I'm getting the best of both sides. Another fun thing about it is that I can say, "Always the groomsman, never a bride." The perks just keep coming!

Monday, August 09, 2004

I had a slightly boring weekend. I did laundry and hung around. Took some naps... overall not much exciting.

One exciting thing, I guess is that KT came home!! Hooray! I haven't seen her yet, but hopefully that will change soon!

This week there are a few exciting things going on. First, tomorrow, "The Prince and Me" comes out on video. Aaahhhhhhh... AND I can get it at Target with the gift card that Jenny got me for my birthday!
Then on Wednesday, the 2nd Princess Diaries movie comes out. I know - I'm a dork. Maybe Jenny and KT will go see it with me :-P

Still no word on the job interview from last week. Fingers crossed!!!

Thursday, August 05, 2004

I must say that all in all I had a good birthday. At work we had a Carvel ice cream cake... mmm... Then Jenny took me out to a Chinese restaurant in Fairfax called Wu's something or other. It had a very 70's decor, but the food was excellent. We then tried to find a homemade ice cream place in McLean, but it apparently exists no longer. :-( Oh well. We went back to Tyson's and got Dippin' Dots. YUMMY!!! It took us a while to get back on 66 because there's construction - it was backed up at 10pm... Grr...

In other news, I tried my boxed wine. I give it two very enthusiastic thumbs down. It is terrible - though I was not expecting too much from Sutter Homes. The "white zin" tasted like water with a tiny bit of flavor added, but not enough flavor. So whatever it was supposed to taste like, it was a very watery version. I was disappointed to say the least.

I went to Target last night to see what I might get with my birthday gift card from Jenny :-) and ended up getting a Maroon 5 cd. I'm listening to it now. It was a good selection.

I have a conference call today for work. Yay. It's from 3:30-4:30 - then home! I also realized today that my supervisor is going to be out all of next week. This could be problematic if for any reason I give my two weeks notice. I was hoping to tell her before my executive director. Maybe I won't be giving notice. We'll see!! (knock on wood - keep your fingers crossed!)

I had a job interview today in D.C. - Keep your fingers crossed!!!!!

This job is as a regional coordinator for the Congressional Award Foundation, and the office is located in the Ford Congressional Office Building. For real I am very excited about this, and I really think the interview went well.

I stopped at Wegman's "on the way" home. I braved torrential downpours, standing water in the roadway, and foggy windows. But it was so worth it. Box wine is making a comeback - it's not the same cheap crap it used to be. Other countries have been boxing wine for a long time now, and it's finally not a "trashy" thing here. OK so it may still be catching on - but, boxed wine lasts longer than bottles, once opened - about 30 days, and 1 box has the same contents as 4 750mL bottles. Saves money!
My mom's been getting 'The Black Box' recently, because that's all we've been able to find, but today at Wegman's, I discovered a new boxed wine - Sutter Home has introduced "The Little Pink Box." For real - it's a little pink box of white zin. I had to get it. I think this will be a new party favorite! Oh, and it cost just $10.99 (I'll let you know about the flavor - I realize it's Sutter Home, and I'm not expecting much).
And just one more boxed wine item - Apparently Target has introduced a line of wines, and has some in boxes. None of the Targets around here sell alcohol (not even Super Target), so we haven't yet been able to try it. It has, however, gotten some very good reviews.
